Long Tall Jefferson — spark

Long Tall Jefferson’s latest single "spark" shows the singer-songwriter at his most naked and vulnerable, adressing bouts of depression and anxiety.

«i saw a spark

i watched it die out in the dark a little flickering of light

that tried to shine

but drowned out in the night»

Bedded in a rustling tapestry of processed sounds, this song takes us from a mind’s darkest of corners into the light of day. By means of the metaphor of fire and sparks we follow the narrator through this journey, battling different conflicting voices and arriving in a hopeful place.

“I was pretty down when I was writing this song. There was something really weighing on me in that phase, I felt depressed, tired and empty. But I needed this song to be positive in the end. There’s this spiritual out-of-body experience in the bridge and that’s sort of the culmination of it all. Some catharsis that I don't really understand and that’s what I like about it.” – Long Tall Jefferson
