Leonard Mavi — Nothing Forever

Leonard Mavi's musical journey begins on a summer evening: having just arrived home, he sits down at the piano still in his shoes and searches for the first chords of “All These Feelings“ between unpacked suitcases. Then the rest of the instruments kick in: the bass, the drum machine, a guitar and finally the first falsetto notes of an unmistakable voice.

This voice is new and yet as if it had always been there. After several years as a keyboarder in various bands, Leonard Mavi now sings himself, giving his voice its place. His music is reminiscent of artists such as Rhye or James Blake but remains true to himself: tender and searching.

The debut EP “Nothing Forever“ drifts through sensitive emotional worlds and multi-faceted sounds, warm guitars and dreamy synths, delicate arrangements and full-bodied final refrains. And so we sit in the back seat of a cab late at night in a foreign city, while the street lights outside pass us by and Leonard Mavi sings “Do I remember what I felt?”

Leonard Mavi offers us four songs, lets us fall onto the bed with heavy legs and gives us back a little lightness with his unmistakable songwriting. We dive through beaded curtains and suddenly find ourselves in the middle of a room, between piano and guitar, immediate and close, hearing the nostalgic drum machines and synths from further away.

And finally, at the very back of the room, a door opens that wasn't there before, we step out onto the already darkening course of a river and sit down in the cool meadow for “Nothing Forever“, the last song on Leonard Mavi's debut EP.

Info Focustrack “Nothing Forever“:

Leonard Mavi’s new single “Nothing Forever” is the emotional centerpiece of his debut EP. The track reflects on the fragile nature of emotional memory and guides us through a dreamy wall of faraway harmonium and synth melodies, while close to us, we are held by the piano and acoustic guitar. Meanwhile, the repeated phrase “Do I remember what I felt?” is a reminder that those moments of feeling grounded existed — and that they can return.
