Brendan Adams — Spirit

Meanwhile Brendan will be releasing his fourth album Spirit. Produced by 10 time Latin Grammy award winner Àlvaro Alencar, the album includes 12 beautiful songs which emanate both the influence of Brendan’s musical heroes and a distinctive uniqueness.
The album Spirit includes songs with a gospel flavour, songs which are filled with Brendan’s own personal brand of spiritual Cape Folk, while nodding at all the great influences whom he admires; and songs where the Brazilian influence of Rio de Janeiro-where the album was recorded at the Toca de Bandido studio- cannot be overheard. The 12 songs on the album are at times joyful, at times romantic and wistful, at times sentimental, but thoughtful and sincere throughout.
Brendan is accompanied by the samba beat of the Pandeiro, he sings of a love which develops over time (“Late in bloom”). In “Bright star” he strokes his guitar in a tribute to the romantic poet John Keats. Also impressive is the pop song “Caught”, which tells of the charming urgency of wanting to hold on to an illusion. The gospel sound of a background choir and a banjo nodding Brendan’s respect of roots music- the simplicity of his tunes may surprise some. Using his soulful voice and sophisticated chords Brendan compellingly describes what a bicycle ride to the moon and a surfers’ lament sound like. Spirit is an album which sounds as if it were
casually put together on a day at the beach- which is what will be the secret to its success.
